Stylish Hound designs dog life jackets complete with handles for sea hounds

The new range of canine couture is giving man’s best friend a new handle on a world of water activities.

They’re the latest four-legged fashion accessory that’s “in dogue” — special life jackets so man’s best friend can take to the water.

Concerned that many pet owners remain in the dark when it comes to water safety, Karen Yang from Stylish Hound has designed a range of life jackets specifically for dogs.

“With so many dog owners ready to hit the beach or pool with their four-legged friends this summer, water safety is so important,” she said. “Many dog owners are not aware that dogs can quickly find themselves in trouble in the water.

“Even dogs who are strong swimmers need a safeguard when swimming.”

Life jackets are a must for canines taking to the water at The Boatshed in Woronora.

They’ve become such a hit that the team has now ordered more.

“I’ve seen dogs struggling in the water first-hand along the river especially dogs like Frenchies so I use the lifejacket as a precaution,” Ms Thompson said.

“Anything can happen so having that handle on the back of the jacket to lift him up quickly is really great.”

Roughly 1300 dogs drown in Australian waters each year, according to pet company Vetico.
