The driver of a stolen Porsche led police on a wild chase and crashed on the Anzac Bridge before fleeing the scene overnight.
Police said officers attempted to pull over the Porsche Cayenne when it ignored a “no entry” sign on George St in the CBD but decided to call off the pursuit due to safety reasons about 1.45am.
About 15 minutes later the Porsche clipped a Mitsubishi Outlander, lost control and crashed into a guard rail on the Anzac Bridge.
Witnesses told police that the Porsche’s occupants flagged down a passing white ute before driving off and fleeing the scene.
Dramatic photos show police officers on the busy bridge surrounding the car, which had serious damage to its front after crashing.
A vehicle check later revealed the Porsche to be stolen from the ACT and it has been seized by investigators to undergo forensic testing.
The occupants of the Mitsubishi escaped injured.
Police called on anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
