Where Dominic Perrottet, Chris Minns have been campaigning the most in NSW

Western Sydney has proven a key stomping ground for NSW’s election hopefuls, with leaders hitting the hustings hard for their campaigns, exclusive data has revealed. See where they’ve been here.

Who won the day?

A swathe of must-win seats in Western Sydney have emerged as the main focus for both major parties, with an analysis of the leaders’ movements showing in the clearest terms yet what electorates are up for grabs.

The Daily Telegraph has crunched the numbers on where Premier Dominic Perrottet and Labor Leader Chris Minns have devoted their time since Australia Day, with both leaders making repeated trips to Parramatta, Riverstone in the North West, and the new seat of Leppington in the south west.

Mapping the campaign stops from both leaders is the best way to gauge which seats either side believes they can win.

Both Mr Perrottet and Mr Minns are running largely presidential-style campaigns and party strategists believe that putting their leader in front of marginal voters can win them votes.

While Premier has been seeking to safeguard seats like Parramatta and ultra-marginal Penrith, while Labor has mainly been on the offensive by targeting seats it needs to win to form government.

Mr Perrottet took his campaign to the electorate of south coast on Monday where local MP Shelley Hancock is retiring.

He used the road trip to announce that south coast kids will be among the first to get a free year of school before kindergarten thanks to an accelerated program to build new preschools.

He also campaigned alongside Kiama candidate Melanie Gibbons, with Mr Perrottet revealing that if Ms Gibbons wins he will promote her into cabinet.

Ms Gibbons faces an uphill battle to claim Kiama from former Liberal turned independent Gareth Ward, who looks set to be re-elected despite awaiting trial for sexual assault charges which he strongly denies.

Mr Perrottet has made more campaign stops to Liberal seats at risk of falling to Labor in a bid to defend the Coalition’s current electoral majority.

Mr Perrottet has also been forced to defend seats in the eastern suburbs and northern beaches at risk of Climate 200-backed teal independents.

Labor, meanwhile, has been on the attack including in the inner city seat of Balmain which it hopes to claim back from the Greens.

Both leaders have made multiple trips to Leppington, a new notionally Labor seat that the Coalition believes it can win.

The Telegraph has counted five separate trips to the new electorate by Mr Perrottet, while Mr Minns has been at least twice.

The Labor Leader has also used his own ultra-marginal seat of Kogarah for some key campaign announcements including launching Labor’s campaign earlier this momth. Mr Minns holds the seat by a margin of just 0.1 per cent.

Labor sources believe that while Mr Minns may not be able to win enough electorates to govern in majority, he has more pathways to government than the Liberals – which cannot afford a net loss of any seats.

Both leaders are expected to increase the pace in the final days before polling day.

Mr Minns hit the hustings hard on Monday, with the Labor campaign bus adorned with his face visiting a NSW Water facility in Kurnell, as well as stops at Sutherland Hospital, Padstow and Oatley.

Labor’s key announcement of the day was a task force it would form made up of clinical experts and past and present top health public servants in a bid to address an elective surgery waiting list which stretched past 100,000 cases in December.

Mr Minns was joined on the campaign trail by wife Anna and also his mother Cara, with the Opposition leader stopping in for a coffee across the road CE Cranney & Co law firm his mother founded in Oatley, flanked by a crowd wearing red Labor T-shirts.
