Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has skipped an appearance with Chris Minns 48 hours out of the state election but will meet with Labor’s last minute Monaro candidate Steve Whan.
Mr Albanese held his own press conference a mere 45 minutes later at a Queanbeyan childcare centre.
Mr Minns brushed off the snub pointing to Mr Albanese’s busy sitting week schedule and questioned why federal Liberal leader Peter Dutton had been absent from the campaign.
“We’ve done many press conferences with Anthony and he’s been fantastic for our campaign over not just the last week but the last several months,” Mr Minns said.
“He’s got Question Time in parliament on today. And we’ve got a very busy schedule with just 48 hours before voting takes place. The last press conference I held with him was a couple of days ago in Balmain. But we’re very grateful to have him on the campaign trail.”
The PM held a press conference in Balmain on Friday to spruik Labor’s candidate, but Mr Minns did not appear. The state Labor leader joined Mr Albanese at a pub afterwards.
“I wonder whether Peter Dutton will cross the state divide to campaign,” Mr Minns said.
A spokesman for Mr Albanese said the pair had been seen together on the campaign trail 10 times while Mr Dutton had made no public appearances.
“While the Prime Minister has been proud to appear on the trail at least ten times with Chris Minns, Peter Dutton has been MIA in Monaro and every other electorate in NSW,” the spokesman said.
“Peter Dutton hasn’t been seen with Dominic Perrottet since October.
“The Prime Minister is proud to support Labor’s local candidates, including Steve Whan in Queanbeyan this morning.”
Riding high on his success at The Daily Telegraph and Sky News’ Peoples Forum on Wednesday night – Mr Minns maintained that Labor was “hopeful but humble” about their prospects on Saturday.
