Hundreds of new homes are set to be built on the Central Coast, after a developer was given the green light for a $600 million development to transform a local eyesore.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal ALAND is proceeding with a plan to build 506 apartments at Mann St in Gosford. The location was previously home to the popular Frogys roller skating rink, which closed more than 20 years ago.

ALAND’s new project, named Amalfi, includes three towers of 25, 29 and 31 storeys with a total of 9530sqm of retail space.

The apartments will range from a one-bedder for $650,000 up to a four-bedroom “sky home” with a price tag of $1.5 million.

Frogys was demolished in 2017. After the first developer walked away, the site has remained vacant in Gosford for seven years.

Local Labor MP Liesl Tesch praised ALAND’s announcement, saying: “I am waving my arms with joy, it’s just wonderful.”

“The old Frogys is an iconic location that people have complained about for years.

“Some of the locals are a bit distressed by the changing skyline, but the reality of the housing crisis on the coast, I think a lot of people would rather see us go up, than go out into the green field.”

ALAND CEO George Tadrosse said Gosford “has got everything, it just needed someone to believe in it”.

“Good transport, good train network, the water, employment, lifestyle, it’s got it all there, it’s always had it all,” he said.

The Central Coast population will surge by 100,000 by 2041.

Gosford is undergoing a dramatic transformation, with a major hospital redevelopment, high-rise apartment buildings, 5-star hotels, a new library and a campus for the University of Newcastle.

ALAND is intending to start construction on the Mann St site by June 2026.
