A Coffs Harbour doctor will remain behind bars after allegedly being caught trying to arrange a sexual rendezvous with an 11-year-old girl and her mother.

Police allege Dr Govan, a skin cancer specialist and treasurer of the Skin Cancer College Australasia, had arranged with a woman to have sex with her 11-year-old daughter.

But there was no girl or mother — a police officer from Strike Force Trawler was on the other end of the line.

The court documents read that the operation was ongoing from 18 of March until Dr Govan was arrested in Parramatta on Wednesday night.

Police allegations in the court documents state “that Murray Govan between the 4th day of April 2019 and the 10th day of April 2019 at Parramatta did incite another person, namely a member of the NSW Police Force acting as a fictitious adult recipient, to aid, assist, encourage and procure the commission of a serious indictable offence, namely sexual intercourse with a fictitious child who is above the age of 10 years of age and under the age of 14 — namely 11”.

Chief executive Lynette Hunt said the charges against Govan were in no way related to his role with the organisation.
