Sonia Kruger gives Ben Fordham a makeover

INSIDER guest editor Sonia Kruger gets Ninja Warrior co-host Ben Fordham out of his go-to chinos and blazer and into something a bit more.

IT IS a long-running joke that dads always seem to be given a pair of socks on Father’s Day. And while my good friend and Australian Ninja Warrior co-host Ben Fordham may be sorted for socks (and presumably underpants but let’s not go there), by his own admission he’s a “meat and veg” kind of a guy when it comes to fashion.

Over the years, Ben has honed his wardrobe to a signature uniform — white shirt, blue blazer and chinos. All perfectly practical to deal with Ben’s busy life of TV commitments, his own radio show and, of course, playtime with his two gorgeous children.

“If I find something I like, I buy in bulk,” Ben says. “I try to look my best but I’m a meat and veg kind of a guy. All a guy needs is a nice suit, a few pairs of pants and lots of T-shirts and shorts.”

Father’s Day is a great excuse for a style makeover, so I’m going all fashion ninja on Ben. There’s nothing wrong with finding what you’re comfortable in, but for the love of living on the edge Ben, let’s jazz up this chino obsession. Think smart casual, Spring Racing Carnival and fun September family barbecues.

Going through a selection of looks with Ben, we’re not veering far from his staple wardrobe, but I’m determined to show him how a different cut of jeans or shirt, and blending different textures, can change his overall look.
