Slain hit man Hamad Assaad’s brother Tarek Assaad recovers from sandwich press jail bashing

BULLETS from an assassin’s gun killed his gangster brother but a lowly sandwich press was the weapon used in an attempted hit on a Sydney man while he was an inmate in a NSW prison.

The jail hit on Tarek Assaad, 31, was, detectives believe, a continuation of the bloody internal war which tore apart Sydney’s notorious Brothers For Life gang and reveals the extent of a feud which is continuing beyond the grave.

Tarek’s younger brother — 29-year-old Hamad Assaad — was shot dead in the driveway of his Georges Hall home in October, 2016.

Hamad, a hot-headed crime figure, was pinned as the rumourmonger who sparked a war within the Brothers for Life gang in 2013.

Tarek Assaad was the victim of a vicious prison hit which severely fractured bones in his face, according to police sources.

In a series of Chinese whispers, Hamad told someone who told the gang’s Blacktown leader Farhad Qaumi that his rival chapter leader from Bankstown — Mohammed “Little Crazy” Hamzy — was out to get him.

The gossip led to the Blacktown chapter organising the shooting at the Hamzy residence in Revesby Heights.

However, instead of hitting Little Crazy, the bullets struck and killed his cousin, Mahmoud Hamzy.

A series of tit-for-tat shootings ensued, eventually laying the foundations for the reckless street gang’s downfall.

Members of the Bankstown chapter long blamed Hamad — nicknamed H — for stirring the violence.

Most recently, Hamad was the rumoured shooter of crime figure Wally Ahmad at Bankstown shopping centre in April last year.

However, police now believe it was someone else as Hamad’s build did not match that of the shooter’s captured in CCTV footage.

In the weeks after Hamad’s death, Assaad feared he would be next, a concern bolstered by warnings from his dead brother’s entourage, and he sourced a Glock ahndgun and ammunition, a court heard in June.

He was busted by the The Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS) for the weapon, and sentenced to jail.

On the morning of June 29, a fellow inmate at the Mid North Coast Correctional Centre smashed Assaad across the face with a sandwich maker.

Police sources and associates of Assaad suggested the bones in his face were severely fractured.

The cost of the attempted contract killing, according to prison whispers, was $30,000 however this could not be verified.

A Correctives Services NSW spokeswoman said Assaad spent only one night in hospital.

“A 31-year-old man was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital for treatment, where he stayed overnight,” she said.

“He returned to the centre the following day. Two inmates were placed into segregation as a result.”

The case was referred to NSW Police, the spokeswoman said, but no charges were laid.

It is understood Assaad didn’t want the police involved.

Contacted on Friday Tarek Assaad vehemently denied any assault occurred in jail and said he was trying to get on with his life.

“I’m not a gangster like you think I am, I just want to move on in life,” he said.

He was released on parole on November 10.
