Simon Monteiro: ‘Playboy rapist’ will spend at least another 11 months behind bars

A VIOLENT sex offender who sparked outrage after demanding an orthopedic mattress and a prison by the sea will spend at least another 11 months behind bars after he was refused parole yesterday.
Simon Monteiro, nicknamed the “playboy rapist” because he boasted of his modelling work and of having dated Hollywood star Barbara Hershey, was told by the NSW Parole Authority he won’t be released until he completes a jail program for sex offenders.
He has refused to complete sexual offender programs because he does not want to mix with rapists and thugs.
He told the authority he was “sexualised” by inmates, who treated the program as a “shop” for sex.
The authority previously heard Monteiro, who changed his name from Simon Lowe, would not take part in a violent offenders program because “it might expose him to violence”.
Monteiro was sentenced to 12 years jail, with seven years and nine months non-parole, for bashing and raping an eastern suburbs woman, trashing her apartment and stealing her belongings after a year-long violent relationship in 2008. Several other women claim he also attacked them.
Monteiro was eligible for parole on October 7 last year but the authority refused it because it was “not in the public interest”.
In recent years he has demanded a raw vegetable diet, a jail by the sea and a soft toothbrush.
His parole will be reviewed in August next year.
