Silverwater women’s prison stabbing: Inmate charged over guard attack
A female prison guard rushed to hospital after she was allegedly stabbed in the back with scissors by a female inmate at Silverwater Jail is expected to make a full recovery.

A female prison guard was rushed to hospital after she was allegedly stabbed in the back with scissors by a female inmate at a prison in Sydney’s west.
Emergency services were called to Silverwater Women’s Correctional Complex just after 8am following reports of a stabbing.
Four NSW Ambulance crews, including a specialist medical team, arrived to find a female guard with scissors lodged in her back.
The female Corrective Services NSW officer, 24, was allegedly stabbed by a female inmate who has since been charged with malicious wounding.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the inmate was a 26-year-old woman who has been in and out of jail since 2013.
She was being held in a mental health unit at Silverwater and there is currently an investigation into how she obtained a pair of scissors.
The guard was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition where the scissors were able to be removed without the need for surgery.
Inspector Kevin McSweeney, duty operations manager at NSW Ambulance said the scene on arrival was confronting.
“Arriving at the job was quite intense – you are never really sure what you are turning up to, so it can be quite unnerving.
Paramedics worked to stabilise the guard before rushing her to hospital where she will undergo further assessment.
“Stabbings, particularly like this, are taken very seriously – we can treat the wound as we see it, but it’s the damage you can’t see that becomes the concern,” he said.
Staff at the centre have been offered counselling.
