The upper level of a weatherboard home in Sydney’s south has sustained “severe” damage after a fire that is believed to have started in a kitchen area.
Neighbours called emergency services to the scene on Silver Beach Rd, in Kurnell, after spotting flames on Sunday evening.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman told The Daily Telegraph the blaze had been contained to the area of origin and “quickly extinguished by our first arriving appliance”.
“The upper level suffered severe damage,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire was yet to be determined.
While two people were in another structure, believed to be a granny flat, on the property at the time, no one was in the two-storey house and there were no reports of injuries.
Several crews, from across Fire and Rescue and the NSW Rural Fire Service, attended the incident.
