She ran with the bad boys, paid the price: Lametta Fadlallah’s life of crime and bloody end

Lametta Fadlallah knew the criminal world was dangerous, even deadly. She chose to live in it all her adult life, marrying two crooks, before she was gunned down.

Lametta Fadlallah knew the criminal world was a dangerous even deadly place to be but she chose to live in it all her adult life, marrying two big time gangsters and was gunned down like a Sydney underworld figure.

The 48-year-old mother was believed to be the target of the hit when she and her friend Amy Hazouri, 36, were gunned down as they got into a car for a night out on Saturday evening at Revesby in Sydney’s southwest.

Right until her time of death she was known to be mixing with some of Sydney’s major criminals including members of the Comanchero bikie clan and Alameddine crime network.

Ms Fadlallah was no stranger to the underworld having been married to two major crime figures and had a reputation for drug dealing as a player in her own right.

In her early 20s she married Shadi Derbas, who at the time was founding member of a violent gang known as the Telopea Street boys from Punchbowl. One of his relatives, Mejid Derbas, 22, was executed inside a car at Smithfield last year.

Through Derbas, she met some of Sydney’s biggest up and coming criminals of the day mixing with major drug dealers and partying in Kings Cross.

“She was right into the life. She would carry the guns for the boys, give alibis when needed and right up till she was killed (she mixed) with gangsters,’’ said a source who knew the slain mother.

On her leg she had a tattoo ‘Living the Dream’, a phrase often used by those in the bikie and crime worlds signifying the easy life of fast money and no work.

After splitting from Derbas, Ms Fadlallah moved on and linked up with a former Kings Cross bouncer and criminal heavyweight, Hilal Safi. Safi’s partner, married Shadi Derbas.

“They actually swapped partners,’’ a number of underworld sources have confirmed.

While Derbas went on to clean up his life after a long stint in jail, Safi continued his life of crime until he died from a heart attack last year. By that time Fadlallah and he had gone their separate ways.

Fadlallah was involved in a number of businesses including a car rental company.

“Lam was not a small-time dealer, she did her own thing and was ruthless,’’ said a former underworld source who has known her for 20 years.

“She was as tough as the guys to do business with,’’ he said.

There are a multitude of motives for her murder with the Sydney underworld going into overdrive over the murders of two women.

“Lam was playing with the big boys and maybe knew too much. She always thought she was smart but this is the most dangerous Sydney has ever been. Killing women so openly is next level,’’ he said.

Many believe the death of her friend Amy Hazouri was collateral damage.

The pair are not the first women killed by the underworld with Sally-Anne Huckstepp the most notable when found murdered in Centennial Park in 1986 when she went public about police corruption.

“While women have been killed to be silenced in the past, none have been gunned down in public like this,’’ said a former police officer.

“It’s unheard of.”
