Footballer Bryce Cartwright’s anti-vaxxer ex-wife may have unwittingly shown herself breaking the law by filming herself while driving.
Shanelle Cartwright, 23, posted a video on Tuesday with her children Koa, 3, and Naia, 2, seated in the back of her car while she ate a cookie as she sat behind the wheel.
In the background of the video you can see that the car is moving while her children shout to their mum. She then leans towards the camera, holding the cookie with both hands while saying “holy f. k, it is big”.
The video cuts to another angle, where the car is still in motion, and she says “there is chocolate everything, all over my hands, all over my steering wheel. How is it kids?
“What do you rate it out of 10?”
One replies “10” before she says “yeah 10, me too, me f. king too mate.”
Confidential asked NSW Transport whether it was against road rules for a person to film themself while their phone was in a cradle, before touching it to zoom in.
NSW Transport Safety Environment and Regulation Deputy Secretary Tara McCarthy said that anything that took your hands off the wheel was dangerous.
“Being distracted when driving, such as by a mobile phone, increases the risk of a crash,” she said.
“It’s important that all drivers are aware of the risks of mobile phone use and know the rules for when they can and can’t use a mobile phone safely.
“The penalty for illegal mobile phone use, including filming yourself, is a $349 fine, or a $464 fine in a school zone, and five demerit points. This increases to 10 demerit points during double demerit periods.”
Shanelle’s former beau Cartwright took a drastic pay cut to leave the Gold Coast Titans at the end of 2020. The Titans said they had concerns for his welfare when they let him depart the glitter strip.
The pair announced their split earlier this year.
It came after a difficult year where he was blasted after being granted permission to play in the NRL despite refusing a mandatory influenza vaccination under the NRL’s return-to-play regulations.
He was granted the special exemption on “medical grounds” by Queensland’s Chief Medical Officer Jeannette Young.
The pair have said they would not vaccinate their children after Bryce was swayed by Shanelle.
She said she had been influenced by controversial Dr Suzanne Humphries to make the footballer backflip on his previous staunch stance of supporting vaccinations.
Shanelle is friends with ex-NRL and anti-vaxxer campaigner, Taylor Winterstein.
