Owner reunited with surviving dogs as seven pups die in blaze

A DEVASTATED homeowner was reunited with his three adult dogs today after a fire which tore through his Western Sydney home claimed the lives of seven puppies.

A MAN injured when fire tore through his western Sydney home killing seven puppies returned to the heartbreaking scene this morning.

The 55-year-old trick driver was treated in Blacktown Hospital for minor smoke inhalation before spending the night at a relative’s home.

They returned to the damaged Michigan Rd, Seven Hills home this morning to assess the damage and be reunited with the man’s three surviving dogs.

NSW Fire and Rescue Superintendent Norman Buckley said the fire, which broke out at 11.50pm on Friday was contained to the rear of the house.

“Firefighters found three adult dogs but didn’t realise there was more in the house,” he told The Sunday Telegraph.

“In a subsequent search they found the litter.”

The litter of Redsetter puppies, believed to be about 9-10 weeks old, died in the blaze.

Neighbours says the puppies were up for sale and the first litter for one of the adult dogs.

Athavan Muthulingan saw the flames and smoke billowing out of his bedroom window, about 10 metres from the house on fire.

“I saw the huge fire in the back of the house and then I ran out,” he told The Sunday Telegraph.

“The owner was standing across the road with the police and it looked like he was crying.”

A next door neighbour took the surviving dogs into her care in the early hours of the morning while the owner was in hospital.

“I looked out the back the flames were just whooshing up,” the neighbour said as

the three Redsetters roamed around the backyard.

“The next minute there was a firefighter banging on the door asking if

I could take care of the dogs.

“It was in the early hours of the morning, there was police and fireys everywhere.

“It’s just so sad, I really feel for him,” she said.

Police spent the morning examining the fire scene and taking photographs before leaving the family to walk through the gutted house.

Investigators don’t believe the fire was suspicious.
