A second man in as many months has been charged with murder over his alleged involvement in the killing of an infamous Sydney underworld figure.

Abdulrahman Mohamed Atteya, 30, was arrested by NSW Police early on Wednesday morning and charged with the murder of former Lone Wolf bikie Yusuf Nazlioglu, who was shot dead in the underground carpark of his high-rise apartment block at Rhodes on June 27 last year.

Homicide Squad detectives pulled Atteya’s car over on Eighteenth Avenue in Austral about 6am and told him he was under arrest for murder, before taking him to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged.

At the same time officers were executing search warrants at homes in Austral, Granville, and Bankstown.

During those searches they seized a number of items which will undergo further forensic examination.

Nazlioglu’s death was the last in a spate of quick-fire shootings across April, May and June that saw some of the biggest names in Sydney’s underworld gunned down.

Detective Superintendent Jason Weinstein said he was confident Atteya would not be the last person arrested over alleged involvement in Nazlioglu’s death.

“I will say this, this is not the end of investigations today,” Det Supt Weinstein said.

“There are other individuals who we suspected were involved in planning this operation and also coordinating this operation, to conduct the murder of Yusuf Nazlioglu.

“We do not stop today and we will not stop, until everybody involved in this homicide and the other homicides that we currently are still investigating under (Taskforce) Erebus are arrested and placed before the courts.”

Atteya faced Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday where he was represented by solicitor Mustafa Agar.

He made no application for bail and was ordered to reappear in Burwood Local Court on June 28.

Atteya is the second man to be charged by Taskforce Erebus detectives with murder, after Mohammed Hosni Khaled, 25, was charged in April.

He remains before the NSW Local Court and is yet to enter a plea.

Police allege in court papers that the night before Nazlioglu was murdered his killers lay in wait in the same underground car park ready to strike, but had to abort at the last moment when his wife got out of his car alone.

Almost exactly 24 hours later on Monday June 27, 2022, the gunmen would allegedly return and shoot Nazlioglu nine times.

His wife Jade was in the car with him at the time and narrowly avoided injury.
