Scott Morrison moves out of Kirribilli House after election loss

He earned the nickname ‘Squat Morrison’ for staying on a little longer at the prime ministerial residence, but ex-PM Scott Morrison has now upped sticks. See the photos here.

Scott Morrison has finally packed up and shipped out of Kirribilli House almost two weeks after losing the federal election.

Mr Morrison, wife Jenny and his two daughters will permanently move back to the Sutherland Shire in his electorate of Cook.

The former prime minister was spotted on Friday morning chatting and laughing with movers in Kirribilli as they loaded boxes and furniture into two moving vans headed for his Port Hacking home.

His move comes 13 days after he was voted out of office, choosing to stay in Kirribilli while his Shire home was painted.

The former PM even earned the nickname ‘Squat Morrison’ after taking so long to move out of the luxury harbourside home.

A spokesman for Mr Morrison said prime ministers had two weeks to vacate Kirribilli House after losing the election so there was “no delay”.

Mr Morrison was spotted moving some boxes and a small filing cabinet into his new home, but left most of the heavy lifting to the removalists.

While his belongings were moved into the Port Hacking home Mr Morrison was spotted taking a break on his white deck chair sporting a navy blue knit jumper and cap.

Some boxes of books were sent to his electoral office.

His new family residence is estimated to be worth $3 million, and most recently was offered to the Morrison’s pool cleaner after her home was destroyed in the floods.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has still been residing at his Marrickville home since the Labor Party won the election.

Even though he has not made the official move to the prime minister residence, Mr Albanese has been busy in the past week, announcing his ministry and cabinet, which includes a record number of women.

On Wednesday, Mr Albanese’s ministry was sworn in at Government House in Canberra.

“We have a position whereby I think we have an overflow of talent on our side of the parliament,” Mr Albanese said when he announced his choices on Tuesday night.

“This is an exciting team. It’s a team which is overflowing, I think, with talent; with people who are absolutely committed to making a difference as ministers.”
