A FORMER politician has lifted the lid on the sordid world of late nights, booze and sex in our nation’s capital.

Disgraced former Labor senator Sam Dastyari went on KIIS 1065’s Kyle & Jackie O show to explain the amount of “rooting” that goes on in Canberra.

“Ryan Gosling spent his life being good looking. We ran political clubs in university” he said.

“Politics is show business for ugly people”.

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce this morning publicly apologised to his estranged wife Natalie, four daughters and his pregnant partner and former staffer Vikki Campion for the distress over his latest scandal.

Mr Dastyari described parliament house as an “unhealthy workplace”.

“You’ve got 4000 people in this building called parliament, which is mostly just journos, staffers and politicians, living in this strange world of alcohol and late nights and sittings,” he said.

“Everyone is telling each other how important they are all of the time ... The staff are kind of waiting on them, like they are kind of servants.”

“All of this fuels this kind of really weird environment.”
