The retired NRL star spent yesterday morning treating family matriarch Valerie to brunch at the Tropicana cafe in Coogee.

After enjoying a bite to eat, the two then walked arm-in-arm to the beach.

Burgess adores his grandmother, posting a selfie with her to Instagram on New Year’s Day captioned “what a trooper … still powering on.”

Last week he pleaded guilty to driving with traces of cocaine present in his saliva. Magistrate Mark Douglass told Moss Vale Local Court Burgess had shown remorse and contrition

He placed Burgess on a nine-month conditional release order in relation to the drug matter and fined him $581 for each of two traffic offences. He pleaded guilty to driving without a NSW licence and driving while unregistered. No conviction was recorded.
