SALIM Mehajer’s ex-wife broke down in tears yesterday as she told a court how she feared being in the same room as him after he defied an apprehended violence order and bombarded her with more than 400 emails.
Aysha Learmonth, 31, confirmed her divorce from the disgraced Auburn former deputy mayor came through earlier this month during a hearing into whether Mehajer breached the AVO.
Ms Learmonth gave evidence to Burwood Local Court via audiovisual link from Campsie police station after providing a letter from her doctor outlining why she did not want to appear in the same courtroom as Mehajer.
She told the court she felt “very unsafe” after receiving “well over 400 emails” from Mehajer since the couple split in March 2016.
And she said that on November 10 last year Mehajer had sent a long Instagram message to the account of the beauty treatment business she eventually started after the pair split. When police prosecutor Stephen Dayeian asked her why she felt so unsafe, she began to cry.
“I felt unsafe going there by myself because I had made every effort to have no contact with Salim whatsoever and having that business was the first time I had put myself back into life, and he would know where I was,” she said.
Mehajer’s barrister, Geoffrey Foster, labelled Ms Learmonth a “drama queen”, claiming she had no proof he sent the Instagram message.
Mehajer, 31, refused to look at his ex-wife on the video screen and showed no emotion when she told the court she did not love her former husband.
The case was adjourned until April 24.
