Safe Schools: NSW government distances itself from controversial education department website

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the person who distributed controversial material designed to teach schoolchildren about sex, gender fluidity and relationships has been “spoken to”.

'Heteronormativity taboo' pushed by 'Marxist' gender fluidity activists

An investigation has been launched into how links to unauthorised educational material, including advice on penis tucking and bra padding, were uploaded to a teachers’ resource hub.

It came after Coalition backbenchers expressed growing anger about the teaching of gender fluidity in schools, with the material likened to the shelved Safe Schools program.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal two government MPs sought an urgent meeting with the Premier to raise their concerns with the controversial resources after learning about their existence.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Wednesday distanced her government from the teacher guides, which are aimed at instructing children on gender fluidity and sexual orientation.

She said it was “not official Department of Education material” and “the person who distributed it has been spoken to”.

Her comments came after backbenchers sought clarification on how the material was uploaded in the first place.

Wollondilly MP Nathanial Smith and Camden MP Peter Sidgreaves both requested a meeting with the Premier.

Mr Smith said children should be focused on the basics — such as English, maths and science — and material about gender fluidity and sexual orientations had no place in the curriculum. He said events like the LGBTIQ awareness initiative Wear It Purple Day were a “Trojan horse” for “Marxist ideology” in schools.

Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said the resources had been “posted without permission” and she was investigating how they came to be uploaded.
