The $479m redevelopment of Ryde Hospital is a step closer with a building contractor appointed for the massive project.
The state government has appointed AW Edwards to construct the hospital from mid 2024 when work will include the demolition of old buildings and the refurbishment of existing spaces along with the new sites.
The existing hospital will remain open throughout the redevelopment, which Health Minister Ryan Park said would deliver more adult overnight beds, a new emergency department, intensive care unit, operating theatres, a custom-built am
bulatory care centre and a pediatric short stay unit.
Medical imaging would also be expanded and existing services such as the Graythwaite Rehabilitation Centre and historic Denistone House would be put to their “best use’’.
“I am really pleased the Ryde Hospital redevelopment is moving ahead and will transform healthcare for the local community, providing the growing community the latest facilities and models of care,’’ Mr Park said.
After the public exhibition phase, the Planning Department approved the project in June and three buildings – the Chattery, Cleaners Store and Community Aged Care and Rehabilitation Service have been bulldozed.
