Roads Minister John Graham is hauling his senior transport executives into a Sunday afternoon crisis meeting to explore options on how to fix the Rozelle interchange mess.
With roads authorities bracing for the return of congestion on Monday, it can be revealed Mr Graham has demanded Transport for NSW Secretary Josh Murray, deputy secretary Camilla Drover and co-ordinator general Howard Collins present options to the meeting on how to remedy the pinch points that have resulted in motorists stuck in traffic for well over an hour.
It is understood Mr Graham has also made it clear the options must not simply kick the problem down the road.
The former Coalition government had described the interchange as a “game-changer”, forecasting traffic along Victoria Rd to be reduced by up to 50 per cent as a result of the connection between Iron Cove Bridge and Anzac Bridge.
Instead, motorists travelling along Victoria Road between Lyons Road in Drummoyne and to Anzac Bridge were recorded crawling in traffic for over an hour on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings and 55 minutes on Tuesday.
To show just how quick the trip can be, motorists driving along the route on Friday were taking just 16 minutes, with much of Sydney working from home.
Over on the City West Link, the journey between Ramsey St in Haberfield to the Anzac Bridge took 11 minutes on Friday when trips were recorded at 8.30am, down from a high of 59 minutes at the same time on Tuesday.
