Real estate agent Clay Chigwidden pleads guilty to glassing

Pumped-up eastern suburbs property agent Clay Chigwidden has pleaded guilty to glassing a man on a dancefloor and running away from bouncers during a boozy night at the Coogee Pavilion.

Is this Sydney's most dangerous cafe strip?

A rising star in Sydney’s real estate industry has admitted to glassing a man in the face while dancing during a boozed-up night out before running away from bouncers.

Clay Chigwidden, 26, who works for Century 21 Eastern Beaches, fronted Waverley Local Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to reckless wounding over the incident on the dancefloor of the Coogee Pavilion on June 9.

According to police facts, Chigwidden — who had been lauded as an “up and coming agent” in media reports — was intoxicated and “dancing in a manner that encroached on other patrons’ space” when he pushed a man on the chest at 10.30pm.

The man tried to defend himself when Chigwidden suddenly glassed him in the face, causing serious facial injuries over his left eye which later required surgery.

Bouncers stepped in and separated the men but Chigwidden refused to give out his details before fleeing through a fire exit, causing one bouncer trying to stop him to fall over and injure his leg.

Police spoke to Chigwidden three days later but he refused to be interviewed and was charged with reckless wounding.

Court documents reveal the muscled-up agent, who regularly posts shots of the high life in the eastern suburbs on Instagram, has previously being charged with possessing a prohibited drug, driving under the influence and assault.

Following the incident at Coogee Pavilion, police allege the actions of Chigwidden “have been for his own self preservation” and that he “has attempted to conceal his identity from police to prevent him from being held accountable”.

The victim, who did not know Chigwidden, was also forced to have plastic surgery to mend an injury over his left eye.

Chigwidden will return to court in November when he will be sentenced.
