Rebels bikie Darren Wallace may have been executed because he didn’t want to surrender his motorcycle

AS detectives probe whether a row over quitting the Rebels may have been the motive for Wednesday’s murder-suicide, police say the local arm of the bikie gang is imploding.

A ROW over “patching out” or quitting the Rebels motorcycle gang may have been the motive for the murder-suicide of two gang members in Picton.

Tevita Daunibau, 31, calmly shot dead Rebel Sergeant at Arms Darren Wallace, 32, moments after a heated argument outside a service station on Wednesday.

As Wallace lay in pool of blood, Daunibau walked to a nearby creek and turned the gun on himself.

The police probe centres on reports Wallace may have been trying to leave the Rebels and to do so meant surrendering his motorcycle.

But it is also understood Daunibau left a local chapter of the Rebels known as “patching out” which may have also been the cause of the conflict.

Daunibau served 12 years with the Australian Defence Force before he was discharged with post-traumatic stress disorder.

He was due to face Picton Local Court next week on a string of charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possessing a weapon in a place of detention, stalking, assault and driving while suspended.

“There is a cost to leaving the gang that can range from surrendering your bike, paying $10,000, handing in your colours and even to the point of getting your tattoos removed,” a police source said.

In CCTV footage obtained by The Daily Telegraph, the former soldier is seen fidgeting as he gets out of a light blue Audi 300m from the scene of the killing and placing a pistol in his pants.

Minutes later he walked up to Wallace at a bowser at the Shell service station on Argyle St and shot him once after a brief argument outside a nearby pub.

Wallace is reported to have pleaded with his attacker, saying “Don’t do it”.

The police source said “there is a lot of descent” in the Camden area and a “whole lot of people wanting to leave, not patch over”.

The Rebels have small chapters in Picton, Camden and Campbelltown.

“The Rebels are in disarray. We locked up a lot of the Penrith and Liverpool chapters who were an extremely violent group. They cancelled their national run in October 2014 for first time because of the consorting legislation,” the source said.

With former National President Alex Vella stranded in Malta Australia’s largest bikie gang is in disarray leading to outbreaks of violence like Wednesday’s, according to the police source.

There has been a increase in members leaving the gang in south west Sydney.

The national clubhouse at Leppington has been shut down leaving the Rebels without their traditional spiritual home to congregate.
