Readers overwhelmingly in favour of girls wearing pants to school

MORE than a thousand people have voted in favour of girls being given the option of wearing pants to school, or making uniforms gender neutral.
Two Daily Telegraph polls showed overwhelming support for the cause with 74 per cent of voters clicking yes to allowing girls to wear pants and 70 per cent in favour of making school uniforms neutral for boys and girls.

It follows a new state government policy which will force every public school in NSW to offer girls the option of wearing shorts and pants instead of a dress.
The Daily Telegraph today revealed Education Minister Rob Stokes has ripped up the 24-page school uniform policy for primary and secondary public schools and replaced it with a two-page document.
It’s the biggest overhaul of the school uniform policy in more than a decade and has the support of Premier Gladys Berejiklian who supports girls having the option to wear the same uniform as boys.
“Back when I was in public school, there was no option. The new modern makeover makes uniforms practical and comfortable for students, with affordability for parents front and centre,” Ms Berejiklian said.
