Raygun’s Olympic zero: Father-in-Law slams judges for unfair scoring

Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn’s father-in-law has lashed out at Olympic judges after the Aussie failed to score a single point in the break dancing competition.

Who is Aussie Olympic breaker Raygun?

Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn’s father-in-law has lashed out at Olympic judges after the Aussie failed to score a single point in the break dancing competition.

Gunn’s scoreless performance in the breaking competition on Friday created headlines worldwide with videos of her routines viewed by millions on social media.

The 36-year-old was coached by her husband and fellow breakdancer Samuel Free.

Andrew Free, Raygun’s father-in-law and Samuel’s father accused the judges of not examining all of the different aspects of breaking in Raygun’s performance.

“It was a pretty stacked competition and the judges were clearly looking for a certain style of breaking which is not Rachael’s,” he said on social media as reported by The Daily Mail.

“Although they are supposed to mark five different aspects with each having the same weighting, in my obviously biased opinion they did not reward originality and musicality so she was up against it.

“The main thing is she represented Australia and breaking at the Olympics with courage and dignity.”

It comes after breaking head judge Martin Gilian, who performs as MGbility, said the score wasn’t a sign she did terribly, and said the breaking community “definitely stands behind her”. “Breaking is all about originality and bringing something new to the table and representing your country or region,” he said.

“This is exactly what Raygun was doing. She got inspired by her surroundings, which in this case, for example, was a kangaroo.”

MGbility said there are five criteria the judges look at when making a decision, and Raygun’s level was “maybe not as high” as that of her competitors.

“But again, that doesn’t mean that she did really bad. She did her best. She won the Oceania qualifier,” he said.

“Unfortunately for her, the other B-girls were better.”

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Raygun has the backing of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

The City of Sydney Council gave Gunn and $20,278 grant in 2022 to research “Spaces for Street Dance”.

The council’s Instagram page was bombarded with messages from hundreds of exasperated users responding to the funding.

“l wouldn’t be publicising this. It makes the grants seem like a joke and there’s so many talented ppl who really do need those grants for their art which is their livelihood,” user thekittenjam said.

“Epitome of academic privilege. What an absolute pisstake of the taxpayer, city and nation,” Marcusmoogz commented.

“You gave her money for this?” Elizabeth_Preece said.

“Can you fix the pot holes on my road instead please?” sienadante96 commented.
