Australian Olympic breakdancer Rachael Gunn – known onstage as Raygun, has officially returned home after her world – famous performance in Paris.

Gunn, 37 touched down on home soil at Sydney Airport on Monday morning alongside husband and breakdancing coach Samuel Free.

The pair were snapped smiling and laughing as they slowly made their way out of the terminal, escorted by a member of Virgin Australia airline staff, who hugged the embattled athlete and wheeled her bag away from the airport.

The Macquarie University lecturer turned into a global sensation and made headlines around the world with her divisive performances and kangaroo-like moves during the Paris Olympics, which saw her finish second last ahead of only one disqualified athlete.

In a bizarre twist – Gunn was also announced as the new world No. 1 breaker on Monday, at the same time she returned to Australia.

Despite her controversial Olympic display, which resulted in her failing to score a single point, the World DanceSport Federation released the latest rankings which had the Aussie sitting at the top of the list.

The result came thanks to the 1000 points B-Girl Gunn claimed for winning the WDSF Oceania Championship, the competition which allowed her to qualify for the Games in July.

Raygun announced last week she would officially be stepping away from competing in breaking for the forseeable future, despite taking out top spot on the ladder.

“I don’t think I’ll be competing for a while. Not really wanting to be in the spotlight, breaking, competing,” she said on The Project.

“It’s been nice. It’s been a bit of a process to try and start dancing again. Like, that’s actually been tough. You know, it was my medicine, and then it turned into my source of stress.

“So, I’m really happy that it gets to go back to being my medicine. I can kind of finally feel free again. I’m looking forward to breaking, but, no, I don’t think I’ll compete for a while.”

Gunn has continued to attract worldwide headlines with the Macquarie University academic being spotted dining with Boy George before making an appearance alongside Richard Branson.

Gunn has even signed with influencer marketing agency Born Bred Talent a move she all but confirmed when she added a contact from the agency to her bio on Instagram.
