Ray Hadley has taken aim at Alan Jones in a four minute spray over the veteran broadcaster’s comments to sack West Tigers Board Director Lee Hagipantelis at a charity fundraiser.
After reports surfaced over Alan Jones comments on Friday at an event to raise money for Daniel Anderson, the former NRL coach who is now a quadriplegic, Hadley took it to his former colleague, claiming he was shocked at the headlines as it was meant to be a day of respect.
“You can imagine my surprise when I picked up the paper on Saturday and instead of reading about a day of celebration and courage that my former colleague Alan Jones went on a rant,” Hadley said on 2GB on Monday.
“Apparently he decided it was appropriate to call for the sacking of the west tigers CEO.”
The Daily Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield reported that Jones was being interviewed by host Yvonne Sampson when he went in on the lacklustre Wests Tigers, calling on Hagipantelis to step down.
Jones said the “Fish rots from the head” prompting the tigers CEO to leave the event even after donating $10,000 to Anderson
“You can’t win every game, I concede that, but he’s in charge of what is this mess,” Alan said.
However, Hadley was less than impressed with his remarks, slating the former Balmain Tigers coach’s abilities and saying on air even if he coached for free he’d be overpaid.
“Alan should be the last person to be calling for someone connected to rugby league to be sacked. He coached Balmain in 1991, 92 and 93 when they finished 12th, 10th and 12th. In fact in ‘93 they won five games,” Hadley said.
“I know he also trumpeted on Friday that he would coach for nothing and as one wag at the function said I think he may have been overpaid based on results.”
