It’s gloom but no doom for Sydney’s harbourside revellers in the latest fireworks forecast, with early fears of a New Year’s Eve washout now quashed.
However, those planning on camping out for the best vantage points should still consider packing a poncho and umbrella.
The Bureau of Meteorology has revised its forecast for Sunday to a partly cloudy day with a chance of showers concentrated predominantly in Western Sydney and over the Blue Mountains.
Senior meteorologist Jonathan How said top temperatures would reach a mild 24 degrees in the city and 23 in the west. Rain is likely for the morning and afternoon, but will clear up by the time the fireworks begin.
“It’s looking like for midnight it will be mostly dry around Sydney,” Mr How said.
“Bring a jacket, because it will be cool, the temperature will come down to 20 degrees in the harbour, and 18 degrees in Western Sydney.
“Check the forecast and the radar before you go, but the weather’s not likely to be as wild as what we’ve seen in recent days.”
New Year’s Day will be “slightly warmer” he said, reaching a maximum of 26 degrees in the east, but showers may sprinkle the coast.
“If you’re planning to head to the beach, to Bondi or Bronte, it’s best to bring the jacket again in case those isolated showers roll through.”
