The brother of alleged underworld boss Rafat Alameddine has been stabbed during a brawl in the state’s toughest prison.
Talal Alameddine, 29, is understood to have been cut to the face and shoulder by another prisoner in an incident at Goulburn Supermax about 11am on Sunday.
Prison sources said Alameddine — who is serving a maximum 17-year sentence for supplying the gun used to kill NSW Police accountant Curtis Cheng — was taken to hospital for treatment.
His injuries are understood to be minor and not life threatening.
In a statement, Corrective Services NSW said the incident would be investigated by the prison and police.
“A 29-year-old inmate received minor injuries at the High Risk Management Correctional Centre in Goulburn on Sunday 23 January, 2022,” a spokesman said.
“The man sustained minor injuries to his face and shoulder at approximately 11 o’clock. He will be assessed at hospital.”
Sources said despite Alameddine being attacked with a knife, the other inmate involved was taken to hospital.
The Daily Telegraph contacted Alameddine’s solicitor Abdul Saddik for comment.
Alameddine was just 22 when he supplied the weapon used by a 15-year-old to shoot dead Mr Cheng as he walked out of NSW Police headquarters at Parramatta in October, 2015.
Sunday morning‘s stabbing incident is not his first violent encounter while behind bars.
In 2018 he went toe-to-toe with the state‘s most infamous prisoner Bassam Hamzy, leaving the Brothers 4 Life founder battered and bruised after bashing him in a jail exercise yard.
While he was the first member of his family to make major headlines for his criminal efforts, his surname is now one of the most infamous in NSW.
Police allege the Alameddine crime network - of which his older brother Rafat is the leader - has been involved in a violent and bloody war with the rival Hamzy gang for the past 18 months.
In that time a total of eight assassinations are believed to have occurred which are linked to the feuding gangs.
The Daily Telegraph does not suggest Rafat Alameddine has carried out or orchestrated any such killings.
