Queanbeyan stabbing: Accused teen killer ‘boasted about scrawling words in blood’

EXCLUSIVE: A Good Samaritan allegedly carjacked and stabbed by two teens charged with murdering a service station worker in a possible terror-inspired killing has told of his terrifying ordeal after offering them a lift.

ONE of two teenagers charged with murdering a service station worker in a possible Islamic State-inspired killing boasted about scrawling words in blood before stabbing another man who had pulled over to give him a lift.

Good Samaritan Sankalpa Mahatara, 20, is recovering in Canberra Hospital after the terrifying alleged carjacking and stabbing early on Friday morning — just a few hours after Zeeshan Akbar was fatally attacked at a Caltex servo in Queanbeyan.

“He (the teenager) pulled out the steak knife and it had blood stains on it, and his friend had a hammer,” Mr Mahatara.

The two boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on Friday after a rampage during which they are alleged to have robbed and murdered Mr Akbar, attacked Mr Mahatara and stolen his car, and broken into a home, assaulting another man.

They were extradited to NSW and appeared at Parramatta Children’s Court yesterday, but the magistrate yesterday made a non-publication order for any material before the court.

Sources have told The Daily Telegraph that “IS” was found written in blood on a glass pane at the servo where Mr Akbar was killed and Deputy Police Commissioner Cath Burn has confirmed police are pursuing lines of inquiry relating to terrorism.

Mr Mahatara said he had just given a mate a lift on Friday morning when the boys flagged him down.

“I thought they needed a lift, they looked like helpless little kids, these were such young kids,” he said.

“So one of them then opened my door and they wanted me to drive them somewhere … I was talking to them and stuff and he seemed really aggravated. He was saying he wrote down stuff … I didn’t understand what he was saying.”

Mr Mahatara said he was then attacked and the duo took his car, leaving him to stagger down the road when some tradies pulled over to help.

The teenagers are charged with murder, robbery, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated entering of a dwelling with intent and aggravated car theft.
