Westfield Bondi Junction – the site of Saturday’s senseless massacre – is expected to reopen to the public in the coming days after loved ones are given the opportunity to mourn at the centre.
Police have finished forensically analysing the shopping centre.
On Monday morning, a NSW Police spokeswoman said the crime scene analysis had been finalised and was in the process of being handed back to the proprietor.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said hundreds of exhibits had been seized and would be analysed in the coming days and weeks.
Chief executive of Scentre Group – who oversees Westfield in Australia and New Zealand – Elliott Rusanow visited Bondi Junction on Monday afternoon to pay his respects and address the media.
“The process of reopening is a challenging one,” Mr Rusanow said.
“Westfield Bondi plays an important role for many, many members of the community, but we have to recognise that this has been the scene of very tragic circumstances and incidence.
“We have to respect the loss of life, the victims, and the victims’ families, and we will take that into consideration in a way that respects what has occurred.”
Mr Rusanow indicted the plan was for the centre to reopen in the coming days, however, he would not commit to an exact time frame.
“We have been in touch and continue to be in touch with the families of the victims,” he said.
“We are working with those families to provide them with the opportunity to visit the site and pay their respect if they choose to do so.”
