P-plate driver rolls car after allegedly driving off from RBT

A P-PLATE driver is in hospital after he allegedly accelerated from an RBT then crashed and rolled his car in Sydney’s inner west this morning.

A P-PLATE driver is in hospital after he allegedly accelerated from an RBT then crashed and rolled in Sydney’s inner west this morning.

Police were conducting random breath testing on Parramatta Road at Homebush about 1.40am when a driver — who had been stopped for testing — allegedly drove off.

Police engaged in a pursuit but terminated a short time later.

The driver continued west along Parramatta Road before he lost control at the intersection of Bombay Street, Lidcombe, mounting the footpath and hitting a brick fence.

DRIVERS USING MOBILES: THIS IS THE LAST STRAW

The car continued into a light pole, hit three vehicles parked in a car sales yard, then rolled onto its side.

When police arrived on site they were told the driver had left the scene; a 19-year-old man was arrested by officers a short distance away.

The man has been taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries; he will also undergo mandatory testing.
