MORE than $600,000 cash has been found inside a car police stopped and searched south of Sydney earlier today.
About 11am a highway patrol car stopped a blue Holden Commodore sedan on the Hume Highway near Goulburn.
Police spoke to the 22-year-old male driver and searched the car, where they allegedly found over $600,000 in cash.
The car and cash were taken by police and the man arrested and charged with recklessly deal with proceeds of crime.
He was refused bail, to appear at Goulburn Local Court today.
Assistant Commissioner Gary Worboys, Southern Region said arrests such as this incident are a result of tactical police work.
“These types of seizures do not come down to simple luck, our officers know exactly what to look for and this most recent arrest is just another example of the excellent work being completed by police,” Assistant Commissioner Worboys said.
“We are well aware that the Hume Highway is a major transportation route for contraband and our Traffic and Highway Patrol and Goulburn Local Area Command Officers will continue to target anyone suspected of such activities,” he said.
