AN accused Sydney drug boss and three others who allegedly flooded Kings Cross with heroin and ice are behind bars as NSW police prepare to round up dozens of their runners and street-dealers.
The 41-year-old woman, arrested in Surry Hills in sweeping dawn raids today, used phones, the internet and ledgers to co-ordinate the distribution of drugs from a home in a Redfern apartment block, police said.
Kings Cross police this morning launched dramatic raids that saw at least one bloodied and bruised man arrested shirtless and shoeless. The man became aggressive towards police and was sent to St Vincent’s Hospital after sustaining an eye injury.
Kings Cross Local Command Superintendent Michael Fitzgerald said: “During the execution of one of those search warrants as police entered the unit, it will be alleged that the male became aggressive towards police as he was being arrested he was restrained and during that process he was injured,” he said.
Just after 6am, two properties on Darlinghurst Road were raided.
Two men aged 40 and 43 and a 34-year-old female were all arrested and taken back to Kings Cross police station where they are currently being questioned by police.
Police seized small amounts of drugs at both Darlinghurst Road properties, and also seized $6000 at one unit.
“The amounts of drugs seized I don’t know exactly, ice and heroin were located at both premises,” Superintendent Fitzgerald said.
A 41-year-old woman was arrested on Crown Street, Surry Hills and was also taken to Kings Cross Police Station.
The woman will be charged with up to 30 drug offences including the ongoing supply of heroin and ice, Superintendent Fitzgerald told reporters outside Kings Cross police station today.
Strike Force Pirrama was established to investigate the supply of heroin and ice within the Kings Cross area.
It is understood police have been gathering intel for several months leading to this morning’s raids with more expected to be carried out today.
Superintendent Fitzgerald said: “We wish this to be a deterrent to stop people supplying drugs in the area.
“I believe that people who use and supply drugs are putting their selves at risks and are putting members of the public who make that poor choice at risk.”
The operation remains ongoing.
According to Superintendent Fitzgerald, 30 more people will be charged with the supply of drugs in the area over the coming days.
Superintendent Fitzgerald said the drug runners were using a combination of both internet use and mobile phones to supply the drugs.
“I’m not naive to say there is not a drug use problem in this command, as we have over three and a half thousand needles discarded per month, with over 160-200 people attending the injection centre on a daily basis,” he said.
“I’m hoping that all the 30 persons involved in the supply of heroin and ice come forward but in reality we will actively target those people in the coming days and they will brought before the courts.”
