Delays have eased after a police operation forced the closure of all lanes on the M4 Motorway in Sydney’s west on Friday morning.
Police were called to the M4 Motorway in Merrylands shortly before 5.30am following reports of a concern for welfare.
Officers set up an operation, closing all lanes between Burnett St and Cumberland Hwy on the motorway for a number of hours.
As of 8am, all lanes reopened and traffic congestion started to show signs of easing.
“Avoid the area, use an alternative route and allow extra travel time,” Live Traffic Sydney said on X.
At its peak, westbound traffic was banked back about 9km to Silverwater and citybound motorists was bumper-to-bumper for about 15km to Eastern Creek.
