BLAKE Ferguson’s off-field antics are in the spotlight again after police were called to the Roosters star’s home in the early hours of yesterday morning when a night’s drinking with NRL bad boy Paul Carter turned sour.
Bizarrely Carter is believed to have phoned police claiming Ferguson’s children had been given drugs after he was asked to leave.
Police and paramedics who attended the home quickly cleared Ferguson of any wrongdoing.
The Daily Telegraph has been told the two mates had not seen each other for five months when Carter, 25, without an NRL club due to several indiscretions, wanted to meet Ferguson at a pub on Wednesday evening.
But Ferguson — caring for sons Harlo, 2, and London, eight months, while his partner Bianca Menniti is in Bali — invited Carter to his Marrickville home instead.
The pair, who used to play together at the Roosters before Carter was sacked in June, had been enjoying a few drinks when Ferguson asked his mate to leave between 2am and 3am.
The 27-year-old told Carter to leave because he had to take the children to preschool “in a few hours”.
It is alleged Carter, who earlier this month pleaded guilty to supplying cocaine at Sydney’s Ivy nightclub to ex-teammate Shaun Kenny-Dowall, became agitated and attempted to wake the children, so Ferguson would stay up and continue drinking.
It is then he is believed to have made his bizarre claims to the police. Police and paramedics arrived at Ferguson’s home just after 5am and his two young sons were both found to be well.
Ferguson was interviewed by police but was not charged or arrested.
“There was a concern for welfare but we were not required,” a NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said yesterday.
Ferguson called his mother-in-law to the house who vouched for him.
“I’m absolutely shattered because I have done nothing wrong,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “Everyone who knows me knows how much I love my kids. I would do anything for them. I don’t know what to say about what happened. It was just plain wrong on his (Carter’s) behalf.”
Carter, who has also been sacked by both the Titans and the Rabbitohs during a tumultuous career, could not be contacted yesterday.
“Blake is devastated, heartbroken,” Ferguson’s manager, Sam Ayoub, said. “It was a mischievous act by a disgruntled ex-teammate … Blake has genuinely done nothing wrong.”
It is not the first time Ferguson has run into off-field drama. He and Josh Dugan were heavily criticised for drinking six days before State of Origin III in July.
