Man sought by police after date falls from Sydney balcony

Police have arrested a man who allegedly robbed an apartment of a man who had just fallen three stories and was impaled on ground patio furniture.

A Swedish-American national is still in a critical condition after he attempted to climb over the railing to the next floor in Brisbane St in the heart of the city earlier this month.

Police previously released CCTV footage showing a man entering the apartment.

Police previously released CCTV footage showing a man, believed to have been the injured man's Grindr date, entering and leaving the apartment on Sunday November 4.

Police did not suspect the man in the CCTV footage of foul play, despite being in the apartment at the time of the fall.

On Wednesday, detectives went to a home on Railway Parade in Macquarie Fields where they arrested a 27-year-old man for stealing from the unit after the man’s fall.

Earlier this month, Surry Hills Commander, Detective Superintendent Gavin Wood said the man had been at the 37-year-old’s apartment for quite some time.

He said users need to be situationally aware when using dating apps.

“Know who you are meeting, where you’re meeting them, what their intentions are and perhaps establish some safeguards beforehand such as providing close friends with those details,” Supt Wood said.
