After months of delay, Planning Minister Rob Stokes has finally given a new $750 million 55-storey hotel in the heart of the all clear to take a step closer to reality.
The government will on Tuesday update the City of Sydney’s Local Environment Plan to allow the 440-room luxury hotel at 4-6 Bligh Street to enter the detailed planning phase.
“This proposal has been in planning purgatory for too long and I’m pleased that we’re now a step closer to having a brand new hotel right in the heart of the CBD,” Mr Stokes said.

It is understood Singapore-based investor SC Capital had become increasingly frustrated at the long delays and wanted action. The company can now submit a State Significant Development application for the hotel.
The design by Sydney architects Woods Bagot will include green walls, roof gardens, four levels at the top of the tower including a hotel club lounge, function space, restaurant bar and publicly accessible landscape terrace.
Meanwhile, Mr Stokes has also welcomed Tuesday’s public hearings on The Star’s proposed Ritz-Carlton project.
