Woman in her 60s died after being pulled from burning unit on Sydney’s north shore

A woman has died after being rescued from a burning townhouse in Cremorne, as police launch an investigation into the fatal blaze on Sydney’s north shore.

A woman has died after being pulled from a burning townhouse in Cremorne on Sydney’s north shore on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to a unit block on Allister St near Rangers Rd shortly before 7.10am, where they found the top level of the building engulfed in flames.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews entered the burning unit and removed a woman from the property. Paramedics treated her for critical injuries, but she died at the scene.

The woman is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 60s.

NSW Police confirmed the fire was extinguished shortly after, but a crime scene has been established and detectives from North Shore Police Area Command have launched an investigation into the cause of the blaze.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Six fire trucks and 22 firefighters were on the scene, and an ambulance helicopter had been dispatched in anticipation of a potential evacuation.

Authorities have urged residents to expect traffic delays and road closures in the area as investigations continue.
