Patrician Brothers School at Blacktown set to support Origin squad alumni

It’s the Western Sydney school that has produced more than its fair share of NRL players, and students are set to cheer themselves hoarse watching Origin next week.

Could Maguire interview for the Eels job mid Origin series?

He might not be obsessed with scoring tries and making game-saving tackles, but Emmanuel Crichton will be on the edge of his seat as brother Stephen looks to end the Blues’ losing streak.

Both Crichton siblings have attended Patrician Brothers in Blacktown, which has produced some of Origin’s biggest stars, including the elder Crichton, Jarome Luai and Spencer Leniu. But while he’s built like his playmaker brother, Year 12 student Emmanuel is a school captain and a passionate debater who would rather be a supporter than a player, according to Stephen.

“He is probably not a footy fanatic like me and my other brothers but he is really good at school so I’m happy to see what he is doing as well,” Bulldogs captain Crichton said.

Despite their differences, Emmanuel and his classmates are passionate Blues fans and will be cheering on his brother and the other Patrician Brothers alumni on Wednesday night.

“Origin only comes around three times a year, so seeing them in the team is proud moment for us,” Emmanuel said.

“They always bring them up in assemblies and show the boys that they have walked in the same footsteps as us, which is really inspiring.”

Luai’s younger brother Calvary, is also a Year 10 Patrician Brothers student and aspiring rugby league player himself.

Calvary said the school support of his brother and other former students was “special”.

“The fact that guys from our school have gone on to make it … we can celebrate that,’’ Calvary said.

It’s time to show your true-blue colours.
