A TEENAGER arrested alongside members of a bikie gang charged over the murder of underworld figure Pasquale Barbaro was employed as the group’s computer “logistics guy”, police will allege.
Police said it came amid a growing trend of criminal organisations employing young tech-savvy people to help them evade police operations and phone taps.
Raymond Zhu was apprehended in Olympic Park on Tuesday as part of a sting on eight members of the Rebels Burwood chapter.
Four of those bikies have been charged with Barbaro’s murder last month.
Zhu, an 18-year-old who was not on investigator’s original target list, was apprehended several hours after his co-accused.
He has been charged with participating in a criminal group. It is understood investigators will allege Zhu was erasing mobile phone data while evading police.
A police source described his arrest as a “bonus”.
The insider said Zhu’s role in the alleged criminal enterprise would now be “thoroughly examined”.
MURDERED BARBARO’S FAMILY LINKS TO MAFIA
Abuzar Sultani, 27, who was charged with Barbaro’s murder, was also charged with conspiring to murder Rebels bikie Ricky Ciano. He will also face a string of weapons and drug offences.
Arrested alongside him was 28-year-old Siar Munshizada, who has also been charged with Barbaro’s murder and participating in a criminal group. Joshua Baines, 24, has been charged with murder, larceny, intimidation and participating in a criminal group.
Mirwais Danishyar, 23, has been charged with murder, driving offences and participating in a criminal group. And Jared Prakash, 24, has been charged with participating in a criminal group, taking and driving conveyance, and entering a vehicle without consent.
Three other men were arrested as part of the operation by Task Force Raptor, a strike force set-up to target bikie activity. The sting was the culmination of a months-long joint investigation by the homicide, drugs and gangs squads and was underway before Strike Force Osprey, which has been established to investigate a spate of bloody gangland murders in Sydney during the past 18 months.
Police are now examining possible links between the group and the murders of Rebels enforcer Mark Easter, his mate Michael Davey and Mehmet Yilmaz.
Investigators have not ruled out further arrests over Barbaro’s brazen November 14 murder outside the house of construction identity George Alex.
It can also be revealed a former close mate of Barbaro, high-profile Hells Angel associate Dallas Fitzgerald, has been in hiding for at least the past month.
Barbaro and Fitzgerald, who were often spotted at Kings Cross strip club Doll House together, had a falling out several months ago and several source claim Fitzgerald has gone to ground.
It can also be revealed several of the Rebels bikies who belonged to the Burwood chapter were in the process of “patching over” to another bikie club.
