MP Tania Mihailuk takes scathing swipe at Labor party

Outspoken MP Tania Mihailuk has yet again used parliamentary privilege to attack the Labor party.

Labor MP used ‘parliamentary privilege’ to suggest corruption of Bankstown mayor

Tania Mihailuk has once again taken a swipe at the Labor party referencing Khal Asfour by asking Premier Dominic Perrottet a prepared question in parliament.

Bankstown MP Ms Mihailuk, who previously used parliamentary privilege to raise corruption allegations against Mr Asfour, quoted a media article calling the new Upper House recruit Labor’s “rising star” who was “hand-picked” by Leader Chris Minns.

“My question is for the Premier. I refer to this morning’s (The) Australian article referencing rising Labor star Khar Asfour hand-picked by Chris Minns,” she said.

Can the premier update the house on how the NSW government is strengthening integrity agencies in our state?” she told parliament prompting uproar from other MPs in the chamber.

Mr Perrottet used the comments to attack the Opposition, responding: “She knows very well the Labor Party rules. They’ve got quotas, but they are not just for women Mr Speaker.”

Mr Perrottet added: “Labor always has to reserve one upper house spot for someone dodgy.”

“When it comes to the Labor Party, I don’t make the rules. They make the rules and they are just doing their job during that corruption quota.”

Ms Mihailuk’s earlier allegations were referred to the Independent Commission Against Corruption but prompted Mr Minns to sack her from the frontbench.

She then announced her decision to quit the party because Labor had not learned from its mistakes and was “not ready to govern” in a scathing speech.
