THE NRL and Daily Telegraph’s Tackle Bullying campaign has won praise from anti-bullying groups in Australia and America.
The endorsements came after the Parramatta Eels took the Tackle Bullying message to schoolchildren in Alice Springs as part of a six week campaign that will reach 300,000 children nationwide.
Eels prop Mitch Allgood said: “Bullying puts people into their shell and takes their self esteem and confidence.
“We are simply telling kids not to be a bystander but to stand up for a mate.”
Dr Judith Slocombe, CEO of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation, said the organisation had begun discussions with the NRL to work together after reading about the campaign in The Daily Telegraph.
“We are thrilled that the NRL is taking on such a big issue and to be working with an organisation that has such a big voice with children,’’ Dr Slocombe said.
“The impact the NRL has with its players and role models on young children is really powerful.”
