Pauline Hanson suggests Port Arthur massacre 'a conspiracy'

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has been caught on hidden camera appearing to suggest the 1996 Port Arthur massacre was a government conspiracy.

In the footage released on Wednesday — the day after a separate video sting was aired in which One Nation operatives were secretly recorded plotting to solicit up to $20 million from the American gun lobby — Ms Hanson says she has “a lot of questions” about the Port Arthur massacre, in which 35 people were killed.

“An MP said it would actually take a massacre in Tasmania to change the gun laws in Australia,” Ms Hanson tells Rodger Muller, an undercover Al Jazeera journalist.

Muller, for three years, pretended to be the leader of a fictitious firearm advocate group called Gun Rights Australia, an identity he established to infiltrate One Nation.

“Haven’t you heard that? Have a look at it. It was said on the floor of parliament,” Ms Hanson says in the footage.

In another video piece, Ms Hanson and chief of staff James Ashby also discuss other conspiracy theories.

“That whole September 11 thing, too,” Mr Ashby says, immediately after the group brought up the MPs comments about Port Arthur.

Ms Hanson then refers to unanswered questions over the Port Arthur massacre.

“Those shots. They were precision shots,” Ms Hanson says, again referring to Port Arthur.

“Check the number out. I’ve read a lot and I have read the book on it, Port Arthur.

“A lot of questions there.”

The video comes as PM Scott Morrison urged police to take “all and every action available” to pursue One Nation if officials broke the law over their bizarre dealings with the National Rifle Association.

“The evidence that has been reported is all out there in the public domain,” he said.

“If there’s an unlawful act, I would expect the AFP or other relevant law enforcement authority to take that action and for them to face the full force of the law.”

Ms Hanson broke her silence over the developing scandal on Wednesday, condemning the “hit piece” by Qatari TV network Al Jazeera.

But she did not offer any criticism or explanation of her officials’ behaviour.

“A Qatari government organisation should not be targeting Australian political parties. This has been referred to ASIO,” she tweeted.

Mr Ashby said Ms Hanson was “quite ill” recovering from a tick bite and could not front the media to address the controversy on Wednesday.

It has placed pressure on Mr Morrison to direct voters to put One Nation last in voting.
