Matilda, Levi and Theodore have made their debut in the state's top 10 baby names in NSW for 2021.
Meanwhile, traditional favourites Amelia and Oliver have cemented their position as the state’s most popular names, according to the NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Olivia, Charlotte, Isla, Ava, Mia, Grace, Chloe and Ella were all favourites for the state’s newest female members.
Meanwhile, Noah, Jack, Henry, William, Leo, Lucas and Thomas were all a popular choice for little boys.
Carlingford schoolteacher Katrina Joseph named her 10-month-old Ava last year because she thought it was a less common name.
“I am a schoolteacher and had never taught an Ava before. My husband and I both thought it was a lovely name and funnily enough, we wanted something less common,” she said.
Ms Joseph said many of the names featured in the list were popular among kids at the school she worked at.
“I think a lot of the names have become more common because of celebrities,” she said.
The list was compiled from the birth registry of more than 90,000 babies born in NSW last year.
Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello said selecting a child’s name is part of the joy of parenthood.
“Whether you opt for a classic name or get creative, selecting a name is one of many important decisions parents will make when raising their child,” Mr Dominello said.
It comes as the state prepares to introduce Digital Birth Certificate later this year.
Parents will have 60 days to register their newborn, which can be done for free online. This establishes the child’s legal identity in the community and is important in accessing government services such as schooling and Medicare.
