NSW Woolworths stores reduce opening hours after stockpiling storm

Nine Woolworths stores in NSW will reduce their opening hours dramatically in a bid to ship out grocery orders to vulnerable members of the community as stockpilers clear the shelves in stores. SEE THE LIST OF LOCATIONS

Nine Woolworths stores across the state will operate under significantly reduced trading hours in a bid to support grocery deliveries to vulnerable Aussies.

The stores will open from 11am and close at 6pm, open for just seven hours, down from the usual 8am to 8pm trading hours.

The stores, which are a part of 41 ‘Priority Delivery Hubs’ across the country will use the extra closed hours to pick and send delivery order to vulnerable members of the community.

These Priority Assistance customers include the elderly, people with a disability, people with suppressed immunity and those in mandatory self isolation.

Priority Assistance was introduced by Woolies last week in a bid to make sure the vulnerable still had access to necessities while stockpilers empty shelves in store.

Woolworths Group CEO Brad Banducci said: “At Woolworths we are focused on supporting the most vulnerable in the community during these challenging times.

“To help support getting basic food and essentials to those that need it most, our teams have been doing everything they can to scale up online and home deliveries to the elderly, people with disabilities or those in mandatory self-isolation.

“Following an extraordinary level of demand for groceries in recent weeks, reducing trading hours in a small number of our stores to turn them into ‘Priority Delivery Hubs’ will help us assist more people who can’t access a store to get products they need.

It comes as the supermarket giant started installing plexiglas shields to protect cashiers and closing some registers in order to enforce social distancing rules.

Earlier this month Woolworths blocked off the first hour of trading for the elderly and vulnerable only, with Coles extending this to include health workers on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
