Western Sydney will get a makeover as part of a pre-election $170 million cash splash across key electorates as both state and federal governments vie for the battleground.
Eight councils across western Sydney have been granted major funding for local projects which span electorates that both the federal and state governments will fight for in both elections.
THE SUBURBS THAT WILL BENEFIT
The projects, billed as a “liveability upgrade” is part of the Western Sydney City Deal signed off on last year.
The projects will be announced today by NSW Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres and Federal Cities Minister Alan Tudge.

Mr Ayres’ own Penrith electorate, which Labor hopes to seize, has been granted $24 million for the Regatta Park precinct, upgrading pedestrian and cycle areas, making a larger waterfront, enhancing green space and room for arts and cultural events.
The area takes in the key federal electorates of Lindsay, McMahon and Hume. Mr Tudge said the developments would improve the lives of people in Western Sydney.
“Funding will support new and redeveloped parks, sport and recreation facilities, rejuvenating town centres and creating spaces for arts and cultural events,” he said.
Mr Ayres said the projects were a sign the city deal was delivering “tangible outcomes for the Western Parkland City”.
“The program will bolster our parkland city’s transformation into one of the most vibrant and liveable places in Australia,” he said.
Other projects in the funding include almost $18 million for the Blue Mountains to improve parks at Glenbrook, Springwood, Wentworth Falls and Blackheath.
Camden Council will receive a mammoth $26 million for sport and recreation facilities, including upgrades at the Narellan Sports hub, a new cricket facility and a synthetic field.
Campbelltown Council will get $18 million for a new swimming lagoon, Fairfield council will get $25 million for upgrades to the Fairfield Showgrounds, while Hawkesbury, Liverpool and Wollondilly councils will also share in the boon.
Work will commence this year.
