The NSW Government has sold off an eye-watering $774 million worth of public land across the state in the last financial year, following the sale of more than 1700 government-owned properties.
The latest sales statistics, released by the government following requests from Upper House MLC Daniel Mookhey, means there has been more than $93 billion worth of public land sold since the government came to power in 2011.
Water, Property and Housing Minister Melinda Pavey revealed Crown Land had sold the highest number of properties in the last financial year — 610 in total — for $6.789 million, followed by 397 properties sold by NSW Land and Housing Corporation for $209.767 million, 197 properties sold by Transport for NSW for $51.529 million and 186 properties sold by Sydney Olympic Park Authority for $196.202 million.

“The total number of NSW Government-owned properties sold in financial year 2020/21 was 1,733,” Ms Pavey said. “The total sale revenue derived from the sale of NSW Government-owned properties in financial year 2020/21 was $774,717,361.”
PUBLIC LAND SALE: WHAT HAS BEEN SOLD BY THE NSW GOVERNMENT IN MY COUNCIL AREA
Opposition Leader, Chris Minns said privatisation had “gone too far”.
“We now have $93.6 billion in assets that the government has sold off,” he said. “This is despite promising at the last election that there would be no more privatisation.
“At the end of the day, this is a government addicted to privatisation, and the end result is the taxpayer pays mores.”
Meanwhile, NSW Shadow Treasurer Daniel Mookhey said “ten years of budget blowouts, rorts and waste is putting immense pressure on Mr Perrottet to sell more and more of the public’s land”.
“Record debt and record deficits means Mr Perrottet’s addiction to land sales will only grow worse,” he said.
A Planning, Industry and Environment Department spokeswoman said the government “regularly recycles assets to fund its significant infrastructure program including investment in schools, hospitals, roads, rail and support frontline service delivery”.
“As of 30 June 2021, the NSW Government owned an estimated $175.2 billion in property assets,” the spokeswoman said.
