NSW will be a state of 30-minute cities and 15-minute neighbourhoods which will see commuters able to pick up their dry cleaning, send parcels and grab groceries minutes before jumping on the train home.

Premier Dominic Perrottet will unveil the state’s Future Transport Strategy on Monday, a plan that will include four new “transport hubs” to transform the way neighbourhoods operate.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the first four pilot hubs will be in Parramatta, Chatswood, Wollongong and Coffs Harbour with planning set to commence now.

Although Parramatta and Chatswood are near amenities, the plan will see more facilities embedded inside the station instead of close by.

The hubs will also provide real time information on trains, buses, light rail, metro, Uber and nearby walking and cycling paths.

“We are laying the foundations for our future transport network now so we can keep building a brighter future for the people of NSW. We all have busy lives and this is a vision to make it easier and more convenient for people to move about entire state whether it be in a city or in the regions,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Future transport hubs will allow people to drop-off their dry cleaning, pick-up parcels and grab groceries directly at the station, making life easier and saving them time so they can get to work or home sooner.”

Cities Minister Rob Stokes said connected train stations with walking and cycling tracks will help improve health outcomes.

“Train stations shouldn’t just be for trains, roads shouldn’t just be for cars, they are places for people and our whole transport network should adapt to our citizens various and changing needs,” he said.

“We understand people lead busy lives which is why we’re piloting convenient one-stop-shops for all your services at transport hubs by harnessing developments in data and technology.

“The pandemic has seen demand for walking and cycling infrastructure soar, and outdoor spaces valued more than ever. Our vision for 15-minute neighbourhoods will also improve health and wellbeing outcomes, and ensure local communities thrive.”
